The original work of seven student dance choreographers will be the focus of this year's Spring Dance Theatre Concert at the Cornell Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts. The students, members of the Cornell Student Choreographers Group, have created works that are fun, innovative and contain elements from their various dance classes. The seven-work concert will be performed May 1-3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Class of '56 Dance Theatre. Tickets are $4 for all in advance. For tickets and information, call or visit the box office in the Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts, 430 College Ave., 12:30-5:30 p.m. weekdays; 254-ARTS.
The May concert includes a solo piece by Cynthia Koppe that uses film projection to show dancers who have digital images projected on their bodies. Other pieces use spoken word and incorporate non-dancers as well as explore gender rules and relationships. Byron Suber, senior dance lecturer, choreographed the only faculty piece in the concert, called "Soundings." This piece illuminates the relationship between architecture and dance. The student choreographers for the concert are: Cynthia Koppe, Sarah Kandora, Kathleya Afanador, Eugenia Chun, Laura Karlin, Jessica Skrebes and Rebecca Budinoff.
There will be a brief discussion with the choreographers and dancers following each performance.
