| The Center for Nanoscale Systems (CNS), established at Cornell in 2001 with an $11.6 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), now has permanent research facilities it will share with another NSF-funded program, the Cornell Center for Materials Research. On May 9, CNS held an open house in Clark Hall to present the new $1 million nanotechnology laboratory space. Looking over one of the facility's two new high-frequency, variable-temperature stations for probing silicon wafers up to 4 inches in diameter, are, from left: CNS facility manager Jonathan Shu; Daniel Ralph, associate professor of physics; graduate student Vera Sazonova; and Jurriaan Gerretsen, CNS's newly arrived associate director.
