Notable

A 10-year-old Science journal article by Gregory B. Martin, senior scientist at the Boyce Thompson Institute for Plant Research (BTI), is one of the most highly cited papers in its field in the past decade, according to ISI Essential Science Indicators. The article, "MAP-based cloning of a protein kinase gene conferring disease resistance in tomato," has been cited in at least 585 subsequent publications and is ranked fourth in ISI's category of plant and animal science. ISI (formerly called the Institute for Scientific Information) says that being highly cited generally reflects the high regard in which work is held and its value to the scientific community. Among other Cornell-affiliated authors on the Nov. 26, 1993, paper was Steven D. Tanksley, L.H. Bailey Professor of Plant Breeding, with whom Martin worked as a National Science Foundation postdoctoral fellow in the early 1990s.
