| Artist Nicole Eisenman poses in front of her mural "The U.S.S. Williamsburg Crashing into the Shores of Fame," which she created on-site at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art from June 10 through 20. Eisenman often borrows from classical and "pop" imagery, 1930s American mural painting and German expressionist art to deliver her witty, subversive social commentary (she describes some of her art as "Caravaggio meets Harvey Comics"). She is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, and she currently is represented by the Jack Tilton Gallery in New York City. Eisenman has had solo shows in Tel Aviv, London, Los Angeles and New York, and she was a recent recipient of a Guggenheim grant. An exhibition of her work will be on display at the Johnson Museum through Aug. 17. Matthew Ferrari |
