Ivy Plus Controllers met: Joanne DeStefano, vice president for financial affairs and university controller, recently hosted the 2003 Ivy Plus Controllers' Group spring meeting, which included financial administrators representing all of the Ivy League institutions and several other distinguished universities, including Johns Hopkins University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Northwestern University, University of Rochester, University of Southern California and the University of Chicago. In addition to important discussions about organizational structure and the financial function, the attending vice presidents, controllers and directors conferred for two days, April 28 and 29, on how to overcome the common challenges faced in higher education in an environment increasingly constrained by budget cuts and tight legislation. Cornell is host to this group every six years.
Bake sale for a cause: There will be a bake sale in front of Willard Straight Hall Friday, June 6, from 10:45 a.m to 1:45 p.m., hosted by the Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment and its Relay for Life team, The Rockets. This team was formed after the death of Robert "Rocket" Rowe, an associate director in the financial aid office, due to stomach cancer. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life fund-raiser, July 11 and 12. This is the third year The Rockets have participated.
