Stanley Cup to visit Lynah on July 11

Cornell alumnus Joe Nieuwendyk of the New Jersey Devils will return to campus this weekend for the annual hockey alumni game, and he is bringing the Stanley Cup with him to share with the Big Red family and Ithaca community. Nieuwendyk will have the cup at Lynah Rink for the game Friday, July 11, at 7 p.m. Admission to the game and for fans to see the cup is $5, with all proceeds going to the Tallman Family Fund.

The Tallman Family Fund was established by family friends to assist former Big Red icer and Ithaca native Mike Tallman '90, who sustained a serious spinal cord injury while playing in a pick-up hockey game April 24. The injury, while not life threatening, has caused Tallman to experience paralysis below his waist.

The fund is designed to provide support mechanisms necessary to getting Tallman on the road to recovery. All proceeds donated to the Tallman Family Fund will be used at the family's discretion to cover such necessary expenses as rehabilitation, a wheelchair and home renovations.

The annual Cornell alumni hockey game features Big Red players from several decades and all 10 ECAC championship teams. Members of the national championship teams (1967 and 1970) also will participate.

For information on the Stanley Cup's stop at Lynah Rink and the alumni game, contact Sue Detzer in the Cornell hockey office at 255-4171 or sld6@cornell.edu. Information on the Tallman Family Fund is available at www.tallmanfund.com.
