Correction

A Notables item in the July 24 edition about an Ecological Society of America (ESA) prize to Richard B. Root incorrectly listed Nelson G. Hairston Jr. as a previous recipient of the Eminent Ecologist Award. The prize went to his father, Nelson G. Hairston Sr. The late Robert H. Whitaker, formerly of the Section of Ecology and Systematics, was another Cornell recipient of the award. Previous ESA prize-winner Gene Likens, now an adjunct professor of ecology and evolutionary biology, was a faculty member and chair of the old Section of Ecology and Systematics. Root joined the Department of Entomology in 1964 and now is a faculty member of that department as well as of the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.
