Register to vote: For Tompkins County residents, Oct. 8 is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 2 general election. For information, contact the Tompkins County Board of Elections, 128 E. Buffalo St., Ithaca, 274-5522. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Exchange fellowships: Applications are being accepted for the Cornell-Heidelberg Exchange Fellowships for the 2005-06 academic year. Two exchange fellowships for study at the University of Heidelberg/Germany carry tuition and fees plus a monthly stipend of 630 euro for 10 months. In addition, the University of Heidelberg will cover the fees for the preparatory language course. The competition is open to qualified students from all academic units. Preference is given to advanced undergraduate and graduate students planning to pursue full-time study at Heidelberg. Applicants also are expected to have a good knowledge of the German language by the beginning of the October academic year. Applications should include CV, Cornell transcript, a brief rationale for study abroad, one letter of recommendation in the student's field, and local contact information.
