Trash to treasure proceeds

Organizers of Cornell's Dump & Run program donated $9,000 to three local charities -- Loaves & Fishes, Cops, Kids & Toys and the Advocacy Center -- on Nov. 18. From left: Jim Bond, a work project supervisor at the Tompkins County Probation Department; Chris Pothier of Loaves and Fishes; Lauren Jacobs, founder of the Cornell Dump & Run program; George Sutfin of the Cornell Police; Bill Apgar, a work project supervisor at the Tompkins County Probation Department; Cameron Polek, Dump & Run coordinator; Mike Koval of the Ithaca Police Department; and Joanne Farban of the Advocacy Center display the oversized checks after the donation ceremony in Willard Straight Hall's International Room. The Dump & Run program collects items each spring that students would have otherwise thrown out and sells them at a giant yard sale in August. Kevin Stearns/University Photography
