In recognition of the importance of undergraduate advising, Cornell alumnus and trustee Stephen B. Ashley '62, MBA '64, established the Kendall S. Carpenter Memorial Advising Award to honor his former Cornell adviser.
There are two types of Carpenter awards, one for individuals and one for programs. The deadline for submitting nominations for this year's awards is Monday, March 29.
Four individual awards of $5,000 each are made annually. Professorial faculty and senior lecturers are eligible and nominees must be active contributors to college teaching and to their field, as appropriate to their appointments, and may not have won the award previously. Nominations for this award are being solicited from all members of the academic community, including undergraduates, faculty and academic staff.
Awards for programs recognize creative solutions for the systematic improvement of the undergraduate advising experience. Individual advisers, departments, colleges and other relevant university units are requested to submit proposals for systematic projects designed to improve that experience. An award, or awards, in this category is made annually from a pool totaling $10,000. Proposals will be accepted from university faculty and staff, college deans and associate deans and department chairs and from other relevant university units.
To get a complete list of the criteria for both award categories, contact the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education at 433 Day Hall, 255-3062. Nominations and proposals should be sent to Vice Provost Isaac Kramnick at the above office.
