Led by conductors Scott Tucker and Lisa Graham, the Cornell University Chorus welcomes the Wellesley College Chamber Singers to present a "Treble Fest" in Sage Chapel Saturday, April 3, at 8 p.m. Admission to the concert is $5 for students and $7 general. Tickets are available at the Willard Straight Hall ticket office.
Founded in 1921 as the Cornell Women's Glee Club, the Cornell University Chorus' tradition of excellence has been formed by high standards of musical achievement and versatility from all corners of the university. Under the direction of Tucker since 1995, the chorus has a repertoire ranging from Renaissance motets to the works of Samuel Barber, from the lamenting love songs of Schumann to Hungarian folk songs.
Aside from its constantly changing and increasing selection of women's music, the chorus also performs major works with the Cornell University Glee Club.
The Wellesley College Chamber Singers, founded in the fall 1988, is an ensemble of 12 to 16 women selected from the Wellesley College Choir's finest singers. The group specializes in music for women's voices, with and without instruments, and presents concerts in conjunction with other college music organizations during the academic year.
Also Saturday, April 3, at 8 p.m. in Barnes Hall, the Festival Chamber Orchestra will present works of four Cornell doctoral candidates in composition: Mandy Fang, Spencer Lambright, Kay Rhie and Diego Vega. The orchestra is composed of professional musicians hired specifically for this annual concert through the Sidney Cox Fund for Contemporary Music. Cornell Professor Steven Stucky will conduct.
