The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology will hold two research symposia in the coming weeks featuring noted visiting speakers.
On April 17 the topic will be "Frontiers in Physical Chemistry 2004," at 8:50 a.m. in Schwartz Auditorium of Rockefeller Hall. On May 1 the topic will be "Catalysis: From Enzymes to Transition Metals," at 8 a.m. in 200 Baker Laboratory.
Both symposia are open to the public without charge.
The April 17 event will feature speakers including Robert Hamers of the University of Wisconsin-Madison talking on "Interfacing Microelectronics with Organic and Biological Materials" and Eugene Shakhnovich of Harvard University speaking on "Selection or Chance? Evolution of Modern Proteins from Atoms to Organisms."
The May 1 event will feature speakers including David MacMillan of the California Institute of Technology speaking on "Development of New Catalysis Concepts of Broad Utility to Chemical Synthesis" and Ron Breslow of Columbia University speaking on "Artificial Enzymes."
