New student economics journal: Taking their cues from growing student enthusiasm for economics, undergraduate students in the Cornell Economics Society (CES) recently announced the launch of a new journal called Face Value, due out in fall 2004. The announcement came during a release party for the spring 2004 edition of The Visible Hand, which enjoyed a limited run as a student economics journal this academic year and will return to its formal role as the CES newsletter in the fall. About 15 students and faculty gathered in Willard Straight Hall's International Room April 29 to mark the release of the latest issue of The Visible Hand, which is published once a semester. Many in attendance were student contributors and members of the editorial staff of The Visible Hand. Anna Nesterova '05, economics, departing editor-in-chief of The Visible Hand was largely responsible for pushing the editorial envelope of the journal while she was in charge. She and four other members of the journal's editorial staff will work together on the first issue of Face Value. Nesterova said Face Value will publish submissions from undergraduate students across the disciplines while also seeking to attract readers and contributors from other colleges and universities. The idea is to promote "economics awareness on campuses nationwide," Nesterova said, and to capitalize on the field's growing popularity among majors and non-majors alike. Joining Nesterova are Annie Cha '05, English; Michael Tang '06, economics and information science; Natasa Lekic '05, English and economics; and, Linda Pedersen '06, economics. Michael Rogers '05, economics, will become the new editor-in-chief of The Visible Hand.
