Big Red geraniums

Cornell greenhouse growers Bill Thompson, left, Michelle Crawford and George Hawver display the newly tested "Rocky Mountain" dark red geraniums and "Sincerely Yours" geraniums that will decorate Senior Convocation and Commencement ceremonies this weekend. The Sincerely Yours variety, used at Cornell's graduation ceremonies for three decades, have a slightly orange tint. The growers, with Marcia Eames-Sheavly, extension associate in horticulture, have been testing darker red varieties -- like Rocky Mountain -- this year. They've concluded that the color of Rocky Mountain more closely resembles the official color of the university -- Cornell Red. Frank DiMeo/University Photography
