Dietram Scheufele, associate professor of communication, received the International Communication Association's Young Scholar Award, the group announced in June. Scheufele, who examines how the news media affects perceptions and ideas among the public, was honored for his contributions to the field of communication in the areas of framing, agenda-setting and priming.

According to the association's awards committee, Scheufele's work in these areas "has important implications for the field of communication that move beyond this particular area of political communication and public opinion."

Established in 1950, the Washington, D.C.-based International Communication Association (ICA) is composed of members from some 60 countries.

Scheufele was among seven communication scholars honored at the ICA's June conference held in New Orleans.
