2nd Dump and Run yard sale to turn student trash into cash for nonprofits

The second annual Dump and Run Yard Sale will be held Saturday, Aug. 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on North Campus in front of Appel Commons and Helen Newman Hall. The waste recovery initiative collects reusable material from students at the end of the spring semester, then resells them at the start of the fall semester to benefit local charities.

On sale at low prices will be shirts, shoes, pants, scarves and other clothing items -- some still unused -- school and office supplies, books, carpets, lamps, ironing boards, mirrors, sporting goods, linens, housewares, decorations, electronics, a computer and furniture, including an entire dining room set.

Profits will be split between these local nonprofits: Loaves and Fishes, the Advocacy Center, and Cops, Kids and Toys. The remainder will be put toward the creation of Dump and Run at other institutions. The event is sponsored by Cornell Campus Life, and is supported through volunteer help from Facilities staff members, the Tompkins County Probation Department and others. Student and community members are encouraged to support a great local organization. Free parking will be available in the A Lot and behind Appel Commons, which is across from Helen Newman Hall. For more information or to volunteer, contact Cameron Polek at 351-8249 or cvp6@cornell.edu.
