Darren Lake, who is pursuing a master's degree in real estate at Cornell, has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship from the International Council of Shopping Centers' Educational Foundation (ICSCEF) for the 2004-05 academic year. The ICSCEF Scholarship Program is designed to assist graduate students pursuing a master's degree in retail real estate. Each year, department chairmen from colleges and universities across the United States and Canada that have master's programs in retail real estate nominate one graduate student for the ICSCEF scholarship. Scholarships are awarded by a judging committee and are based on academic excellence and financial need. Lake, who holds a bachelor's degree from Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo., worked as an associate broker in Chicago and now is enrolled in the master's degree program in real estate at Cornell with a concentration in development. ICSCEF was established in 1988 by the board of trustees of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) for the general purpose of promoting and supporting graduate-level programs, institutes and centers involved in the study of real estate and retail. Founded in 1957, ICSC is the premier global trade association of the shopping center industry. Its more than 49,000 members in 77 countries include shopping center owners, developers, managers, marketing specialists, investors, retailers and brokers, as well as academics and public officials.
