The Cornell Council for the Arts (CCA) is seeking grant proposals in the following three areas: multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary group projects; individual student and staff projects; and its Innovative Outreach Program. Application forms for project grants, individual grant projects and information for the Innovative Outreach Program can be downloaded from http://www.arts.cornell.edu/cca.
Grant applications for multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary art projects for the 2005-06 academic year can represent efforts to enlarge on collaborative interests between different departments, units or faculty members. Grants of $3,000 or less -- $1,000 for student organizations -- will be awarded based on merit of the project idea and proposal documents.
The CCA welcomes proposals requesting grants for artists and arts-related projects to be presented on campus or in the Ithaca area. Grants are intended to support cultural activities outside the regular academic responsibility of individual departments or units.
Departments, programs and individual faculty members are eligible to apply.
For fall 2005 projects, applicants must meet with their CCA sponsor and inform the CCA office of their intention to apply by Friday, April 15. Proposals must be submitted to the CCA office by Friday, April 22. For spring 2006 projects, applicants must meet with a CCA sponsor and inform the CCA office of their intention to apply by Sept. 14, and materials must be submitted by Sept. 21.
Individual Student-Staff Projects Grants will be awarded to encourage and support individual creative and performing artists in the Cornell community. Grants of up to $750 will be made to Cornell student and staff (faculty are ineligible) applicants who will be affiliated with Cornell in the 2005-06 academic year and who demonstrate potential to complete and present high-quality creative projects during the following academic year. Full or partial funding will be granted for proposed projects that demonstrate artistic merit and will make a distinct impact on the Cornell community.
Application deadlines follow the same protocol as project grants (above) and are due Friday, April 29, and Friday, May 6, respectively.
Innovative Outreach Faculty Grants promote creative projects in the off-campus venues and aim to recognize the valuable role of the arts in social change. Local, national and international communities and neighborhoods are all potential sites for collaborative projects that engage Cornell faculty members, students and community participants.
Projects can be conceived as permanent visual and/or built work, temporary spatial installations or serial performances and can engage media appropriate to the project concept, including but not limited to film and video, paint, land or building materials, etc. Projects should introduce innovation and service learning into their conceptual strategies for engaging multiple constituencies of faculty, student and community inhabitants.
Additionally, working methodologies and educational pedagogies should attempt to dissolve traditional classroom hierarchies between teacher and student, as well as the hierarchies of power in the community in which the project team is working. Project teams are highly encouraged to engage in local, national and international communities that present social challenges to conventional artistic production. Grants are awarded for up to $2,000 per project.
Application deadlines follow the same protocol as project grants (above) and are due Friday, April 27, and Friday, May 4, respectively. Spring 2006 project materials are due Friday, Nov. 7, and Friday, Nov. 14, respectively.
