Student-led concert will benefit tsunami victims

Cornell will present a benefit concert, Big Red Relief, to raise money for victims of the December 2004 tsunami disaster in the Indian Ocean. The concert, which will include an array of talented student performers from across campus, is Sunday, April 3, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. in Barton Hall. Everyone is welcome, and doors open at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the Willard Straight Hall ticket office on campus; at the Clinton House, Ithaca Guitar Works and Greenstar Co-op Market in downtown Ithaca; and online at http://www.cornelltickets.com or http://www.ithacaevents.com. Big Red Relief benefit T-shirts also are for sale at tables outside Willard Straight Hall or by contacting Andrea Skinner at ajs96@cornell.edu. T-shirts are $5 if purchased prior to the event and $10 at the door. All proceeds from the event and from T-shirt sales will go to UNICEF to aid tsunami relief efforts.

Big Red Relief will showcase a diverse and talented range of student dance, a cappella and performance groups. For a full lineup of performers and more information on the event, visit the Big Red Relief Web site at http://www.rso.cornell.edu/bigredrelief.

Five restaurants near campus also are supporting Big Red Relief by providing food discounts to people who wear their Big Red Relief T-shirts. People wearing T-shirts on the following days at these restaurants will receive discounts: Thursday, March 31, at the Pita Pit and Smoothie Hut; Friday, April 1, and Saturday, April 2, at the ABC Café; and Saturday, April 2, and Sunday, April 3, at Rulloff's Restaurant and Collegetown Bagels. Rulloff's, Collegetown Bagels and the ABC Café will be donating part of that weekend's proceeds to the tsunami relief effort.

Sponsors of the event include Cornell's Department of Athletics and Physical Education, the Student Assembly Finance Commission, the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, Red Key Honorary Society, the Division of Student and Academic Services, Cornell Campus Life, Chapters of Excellence, the Interfraternity Council, the Panhellenic Association, the Multicultural Greek Letter Council, WVBR radio, Perfect Screen Printers Unlimited, Greenstar Co-op, Ithaca Guitar Works, Clinton House and buzz magazine.
