Something old and something new grace the cover of the 1997 Cornell Calendar -- the llenroc facade of McGraw Tower and the shadow of the Straight's peak frame the freshly paved Ho Plaza on a bright summer day.
The calendar, an annual joy for many Cornellians to behold, is on sale at the Campus Store and at bookstores in Ithaca. It also is available at volume discounts to university departments and organizations for use as gifts and fund-raising premiums.
The year starts with two snowy scenes on Libe Slope to illustrate January and February, one of students trudging uphill to class and the other of a lone, parka-clad downhill trayer. Shots of Warren Hall in March, Cascadilla Gorge in April and Tjaden Hall in May precede a June view of Morrill and McGraw halls at sunset.
Following the Ho Plaza photo for July, there are portraits of the new Veterinary Medical Center in August, Goldwin Smith Hall as classes begin anew in September, Baker Tower and courtyard in October, the new radome as it was lifted into place atop the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico for November and the interior of Sage Chapel for December.
All photographs were taken by University Photography with seven of the 12 shots by Charles Harrington. If the pictures seem especially sharp, that could be because the entire 1997 calendar was shot with large-format cameras for the first time.
Volume purchases can be made through the Office of Graphic Purchasing, East Hill Plaza, attention Patty Place (255-4352, pip1@cornell.edu ).
