Intruding deer aided by CU vets: When a white-tailed deer blundered through a glass window into Bard Hall last week, specialists from the Wildlife and Exotic Animal Medicine Program in the College of Veterinary Medicine aided the animal in returning to the wild. The deer, described as a four-point buck weighing about 130 pounds, was not seriously injured by its break-and-enter adventure, according to Noha Abou-Madi, the postdoctoral associate who administered a tranquilizing projectile syringe. She and graduate student Kevin Kimber were called to the scene the evening of Oct. 1 after a state conservation officer declared the animal unable to leave on its own. The tranquilizer anesthetized the deer while Abou-Madi performed an exam. Conservation Officer Marvin Mobbs transported the deer and released it in a wooded area east of campus.

Name that department: Psychological Services at Gannett Health Center is holding a "Name That Department" Contest. The staff is looking for a new name that will reflect the broadening scope of the center's services and activities and be more "user friendly." In addition to the traditional focus on individual and group counseling and psychotherapy, the office is expanding its focus to include more outreach activities and prevention programming that will more broadly address the developmental and life issues of all students. Students, faculty and staff members are eligible to enter the contest. Entries must include name, local address and phone number. More than one suggestion may be offered. Send ideas or suggestions by campus mail to: Name That Department, Psychological Services, Gannett Health Center; or by e-mail to: ghc_admin@cornell.edu; or place entries in the "Name That Department" suggestion box in the main lobby of Gannett Health Center.
