Malott memorial service: A memorial service for Deane W. Malott, Cornell president from 1951 to 1963, will be held Sunday, Oct. 20, at 3 p.m. at Sage Chapel on campus. Malott died on Sept. 11 at his home in Ithaca. He was 98. The memorial service will be followed immediately by a reception at the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art on campus. Women's Studies grants: The Women's Studies Program announces the availability of the Beatrice Brown Awards for graduate students (M.A. and Ph.D.) working on some aspect of women and gender. These awards are small grants, generally no more than $250. They can be used for research and professional development expenses. Some examples of expenses eligible for reimbursement under the award are: preproposal work, archival work, purchase of Xerox copies of microfilm, attendance at professional meetings and research-related dissertation expenses. The grants will be awarded for expenses incurred between Oct. 1, 1996, and March 30, 1997. Applications should contain a curriculum vitae, a description of the project of no more than one page, a budget and a letter from the chair of the student's special committee. Preference will be given to Women's Studies minors and those submitting letters of recommendation from Women's Studies faculty. Contact the Women's Studies office for information on how to become a Women's Studies minor. The deadline for submission of the application to the Women's Studies office, 391 Uris Hall, is Oct. 25, 1996. Awards will be announced by mail.
