Moyer came to Ithaca in 1941 to begin work at Cornell as counselor of men students, and with the exception of a two year period during World War II when he served in the Navy as the commanding officer of the V-12 unit at St. Lawrence University, he remained at Cornell until his retirement in December of 1971. In 1951 he was appointed director of student personnel in the College of Engineering. In 1966 he became special assistant to Provost Dale Corson. After Corson became president of the university, Moyer remained his assistant until his retirement in 1971. Moyer is survived by a son, John R. Moyer, and a grandson and granddaughter. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ithacare Center or the Nature Conservancy.
Agda Swenson Osborn, 99, Ithaca community leader and Cornell alumna of the class of 1920, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Cayuga Medical Center.
Osborn worked for many Ithaca organizations, including as a member of the first City of Ithaca Planning Board, Common Council, Southside Community Center and the United Way. She was instrumental in the building of the Women's Community Building in Ithaca, the Ithaca Commons and the Hangar Theatre. She also worked for decades in support of health care, both in the Ithaca community and at the state and national levels. Family and Children's Service of Ithaca established an annual volunteerism award in her honor in 1983.
Osborn was active in Cornell alumni activities and was president of the Class of '20 women for decades. At her 75th reunion, she was honored for her dedication to her class and to the university. At her 76th reunion, this past June, she again was the oldest returning graduate.
Osborn is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John C. and Janice Osborn; two grandsons and two granddaughters; and several great-grandchildren.
