Music of Bach, Vivaldi, Chopin and Liszt highlight weekend concerts

Soprano Judith Kellock, Cornell assistant professor of music, will collaborate with guest pianist Janice Weber in a presentation of songs and song transcriptions by Chopin, Liszt and Rachmaninoff Friday, Nov. 15, at 8:15 p.m. in Barnes Hall.

The program features three piano pieces by Chopin, three songs by Liszt that take their focus from the texts of Victor Hugo and a piano work by Rachmaninoff. Kellock will perform three songs from Opus 38 in English: Daises, Dreams and The Pied Piper and Rachmaninoff's Vocalise.

Weber, an acclaimed interpreter of contemporary music, has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the American Composers Orchestra, the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, the Boston Pops and the Newport Festival. She teaches piano at the Boston Conservatory.

Professor John Hsu will conduct the Cornell Chamber Orchestra in a program of Bach, Vivaldi, Marcello, Haydn and Boccherini Saturday, Nov. 16, at 8:15 p.m. in Barnes Hall.

Beth Taylor '00 is the featured soloist in Alessandro Marcello's Concerto in C minor for oboe, strings and continuo. A Dean's Scholar in the College of Arts and Sciences, Taylor is a member of the Cornell Symphony Orchestra as well as the Chamber Orchestra.

Prior to entering Cornell, she played with the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra, Orchard Park Symphony Orchestra and the All-State Orchestra. She has studied with Rodney Pierce, principal oboe with the Buffalo Philharmonic.

Both performances are free and open to the public.
