An injury halts Levitt's season

Senior tailback Chad Levitt ended his collegiate football career Saturday against Columbia -- 58 yards short of tying the career Ivy League rushing record held by Cornell alumnus Ed Marinaro '72. Levitt, who amassed 4,657 rushing yards during his great career, was injured in the second quarter, after having gained 27 yards and scoring a touchdown against the Lions, who went on to win the game 24-10.

Levitt suffered ligament damage and a dislocation of his right arm when he was tackled and fell on it after catching a screen pass. His arm was operated on on Sunday, and Sports Communications Director Dave Wohlhueter reported doctors said he should have a complete recovery -- but the recovery will take time. Levitt will miss the Big Red's final football game against Pennsylvania this Saturday, and his status is doubtful for the college all-star Shrine Football Classic on Jan. 11, to which he was invited.
