Agribusiness conference here Dec. 10 will feature economic outlook

Terry Barr, chief economist for the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, Washington, D.C., will discuss "Food and Agriculture in a National and Global Perspective" at the Annual Agribusiness Economic Outlook Conference at Cornell on Dec. 10.

Sponsored by Cornell's Department of Agricultural, Resource, and Managerial Economics, the conference will feature economic outlook on agricultural and consumer issues. The conference is open to anyone with interest in these areas.

The morning plenary session begins at 10 in the David L. Call Auditorium in Kennedy Hall. John Brake, the W.I. Myers Professor of Agricultural Finance, will provide the national perspective on the economy and agriculture. Following Brake's presentation, Barr will give his invited address.

In the afternoon, three concurrent sessions will examine specific commodity areas in more depth. These sessions will begin at 1:15:

·In Session A, held in the David L. Call Auditorium, Brake will address the outlook for grains, feed and other farm outputs. Mark Stephenson, Cornell senior extension associate, will discuss the dairy situation and outlook.

·In Session B, held in Room 145 Warren Hall, Gerald White will address the fruit, grape and wine situation and outlook and Enrique Figueroa will discuss the current perspective and future view toward vegetables and ornamentals. Also, guest speakers Bill Pool, of Wegman's Food Markets, and Tom Facer, of Comstock Michigan Fruit, will discuss "Processor/Retailer Experience with IPM (Integrated Pest Management) Products."

·In Session C, held in Room 166 Martha Van Rensselaer Hall, Elizabeth Peters will address "Consumers and Consumption Patterns," and Alan Mathios will discuss "Perspectives on Consumer Policy." This concurrent session is sponsored by Cornell's Department of Consumer Economics and Housing.
