Guarneri and Orion string quartets appear together in concert Dec. 6

Reprising their successful 1993 collaboration, the Guarneri String Quartet is touring again with the Orion String Quartet and will perform as part of the Cornell Concert Series this Friday at 8:15 p.m. in Statler Auditorium.

Tickets are $15 to $25, with discounts for students, and are available at the Lincoln Hall ticket office.

The quartets borrow players from each other to perform Mozart's Viola Quintet in G Minor, K. 516 and Brahm's String Sextet in G Major, Op. 36, and join forces completely to play Felix Mendelssohn's masterpiece, the Octet in E-flat Major, Op. 20.

The Guarneri String Quartet, established in 1964, is the longest-lived string quartet with original members. The quartet has performed more than 2,000 times and has produced some 30 recordings. Its members are violinists Arnold Steinhardt and John Dalley, violist Michael Tree and cellist David Soyer.

The Orion String Quartet recently was named the quartet-in-residence of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. It holds similar honors at the Sante Fe and Aspen music festivals. Quartet members are violinists Daniel and Todd Phillips, violist Steven Tenebom and cellist Timothy Eddy.
