Arthur L. Bloom, professor and director of undergraduate studies in the Department of Geological Sciences, has been awarded the honorary degree of doctor of sciences by the University of Maine. Bloom was cited for his early work on the ice-age sea level changes in coastal Maine. His pioneering research has been the basis for continuing work in the scientific community on other glaci ated coastal areas around the world. He retired from Cornell on July 1 after 36 years of teaching and research.
