Notices should be sent to arrive 10 days prior to publication and should include the name and telephone number of a person who can be called if there are questions.

Notices should also include the subheading of the calendar in which the item should appear.

Cornell Jitterbug Club

* Spring '97 registration: Graduate student registration is in Room 125, Caldwell Hall, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 16. New students and those continuing students with "holds" must register in person at Caldwell Hall. Continuing students with no "holds" do not need to go to Caldwell Hall for registration. To determine if you have a "hold," check "Just the Facts" on Bear Access.
* Late registration is Jan. 20 through Feb. 7, Office of the University Registrar, 222 Day Hall. A late registration fee of $200 plus interest payments will be assessed to those registering after Feb. 7.
* Course enrollment: Graduate student course enrollment is Jan. 17 through Feb. 7. Forms are available in graduate field offices and at Caldwell Hall. Return completed form in person by Friday, Feb. 7, to the Graduate School. Students who completed electronic online precourse enrollment do not need to complete a course enrollment form. For course changes, submit a course "add and drop" form to the Graduate School.
* Reduced tuition: An application form for reduced tuition must be filed with the Graduate School when applying for reduced tuition for the first time. To receive reduced tuition for the spring semester, the form must be received by Feb. 7. Qualifications: doctoral candidate, completed six semesters in the Cornell Graduate School, passed A-Exam, no longer taking courses.
* Selection and change form: New students need to return the completed Special Committee Selection and Change form to the Graduate School by Feb. 7. For an entering student, the form must bear at least the signature of a temporary adviser.
* Active file fee deadline: Ph.D. candidates for a May degree who are not registered for Spring 1997 and wish to avoid the $200 active file fee for Spring 1997 must complete all degree requirements by Feb. 7.
* Dissertation/thesis seminars will be held in 100 Caldwell Hall at 2:30 p.m.: master's on Tuesday, Feb. 18; doctoral on Thursday, Feb. 20. The thesis adviser will discuss preparing and filing theses and dissertations; students, faculty and typists are encouraged to attend.
* Travel grants: Conference travel grant applications are due at the Graduate Fellowship Office, Caldwell Hall, by Feb. 1 for March conferences. Applications are available at graduate field offices; registered graduate students invited to present papers or posters are eligible.
* Graduate faculty meeting: Friday, Jan. 24, 4 p.m., 125 Caldwell Hall. This meeting is solely for the purpose of voting on January degrees.
* TA workshop: Teaching development workshops will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, 9: a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning in Trillium, Kennedy Hall. Registration forms are available at the Office of Instructional Support, Room 415, CCC, phone: 255-3493. Refundable $5 registration fee.
* Trustees: Candidate's petitions for student member of the Cornell Board of Trustees are due Feb. 14; Forms are available from Office of Assemblies, 165 Day Hall.
* Summer travel grants: Applications for 1997 Sicca and Manon summer travel grants for graduate students in the humanities and social sciences are available at the Institute for European Studies, 120 Uris Hall, 255-7592; deadline is Feb. 14.
* Einaudi Fellowship: Ph.D. candidates in modern European government, history, economics and related fields are eligible for the Einaudi Fellowship to support European-based research for the 1997-98 academic year. Information and applications are available at the Institute for European Studies, 120 Uris Hall, 255-7592; deadline is March 3.
* Fellowships: Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships applications for 1997-98 are available in the World Area Program Offices, located on the first floor of Uris Hall. These offices also will have information on deadline for completed applications. Fellowships are available to citizens or permanent residents of the United States.
* GCA positions: Graduate and Professional Student Housing will hold information sessions and provide applications for those interested in a job as a graduate community assistant for 1997-98. This is a live-in position in one of the graduate resident buildings/complexes. All full-time graduate and non-traditional undergraduate students are welcome. To apply you must attend one of the following information sessions: Hasbrouck Community Center, Jan. 28, noon to 1 p.m.; Big Red Barn, Jan. 23, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Maplewood Park Community Center, Jan. 19, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Note: The position requires a time commitment of 10 to 20 hours per week.Info: phone 255-7290.

Jan. 19: John Kirk and Trish Miller will perform their mix of old-time and contemporary folk. The show runs Sundays from 8 to 11 p.m., with live sets at 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30, in the Cafe at Anabel Taylor Hall. Admission is free. Bound for Glory is broadcast on WVBR-FM 93.5 and 105.5.

Employee/Family Night at the Court
Employee/Family Night at the Court will be held Jan. 18 in the Multipurpose Room of the Field House. The men's and women's basketball teams will take on Columbia; the women's game starts at 5 p.m., men's at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the games are $3.
Figure Skating Club
The Cornell Figure Skating Club is a non-profit organization that offers ice sessions for advanced skaters in ice dance, freestyle, moves in the field and stroking. Sessions are set at Lynah Rink on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. For information, call club president Linda Kabelac at 257-3071.
Group Folk Guitar Lessons
Once again the Willard Straight Hall Program Board presents Phil Shapiro's group folk guitar lessons. There are eight one-hour lessons on Monday evenings, starting Jan. 27 in the North Room of Willard Straight Hall. Registration is at the first lesson; just come and bring a guitar. The beginner lesson will be held at 7 p.m.; intermediate, at 8 p.m. The cost is $45, payable at the first lesson. For more information, call Phil Shapiro at 844-4535.

* An introduction to the Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections, Kroch Library, will take place Jan. 17 at 2:15 p.m. starting on level 2B of the Kroch Library rotunda.
