Beatrice Brown Awards: The Women's Studies Program announces the availability of the Beatrice Brown Awards for graduate students (M.A. and Ph.D.) working on some aspect of women and gender. These awards are small grants, generally no more than $250. They can be used for research and professional development expenses. The grants will be awarded for expenses incurred between April 1 and Sept. 30 of this year. Applications should contain a curriculum vitae, a description of the project of no more than one page, including a budget and a letter from the chair of the student's special committee. Preference will be given to women's studies minors and those submitting letters of recommendation from women's studies faculty. Contact the women's studies office for information on how to become a women's studies minor. The deadline for submission of the application to the women's studies office, 391 Uris Hall, is March 28. Awards will be announced by mail.
Community service award: The Robinson-Appel Humanitarian Award, established by alumni Gerald and Margot Robinson and Robert and Helen Appel, is designed to honor Cornell students' past and present contributions to community service. Applications and nominations are now being sought for three awards of $1,500 each for use in community service activities. Applications and nominations are available at the Public Service Center, 200 Barnes Hall, or at the Information and Referral Center in the Day Hall lobby. The application deadline is March 14.
