More space for books

On April 14, groundbreaking began for the Library Annex on Palm Road, near the Cornell Orchards. Scheduled for completion in January 1998, the building will provide an additional 11,000 gross square feet of storage space for lesser-used collections from libraries across campus, plus 3,500 gross square feet to house work space for staff and a public reading room. Between 1998 and 2000, library staffers will move one million volumes into the warehouse, which will have a total capacity of about 1.4 million volumes. The projected cost of the expansion project is $4.8 million. Shown at the groundbreaking are, from left, Vice President for University Relations Henrik N.
