Canned food drive: The Cornell Campus Store is sponsoring a canned food drive May 5 through 17. Faculty, staff and students may drop off canned and dried food products in the main hallway at the Campus Store. All donations collected will be delivered to the soup kitchen of the Salvation Army, which serves meals to more than 100 people each weekend. Many of the volunteers at the Salvation Army in Ithaca are Cornell students. For students in particular, this is a good opportunity to clean out cupboards before leaving campus this month. Among the items needed most are canned goods, including instant powdered milk, rice, oats, jams and jellies, dried or canned beans, canned tuna, juices and canned fruit.
Shoemobile on campus: Lehigh Safety Shoe will be on campus with their shoemobile on Friday, May 16. The shoemobile, which provides a large selection of safety shoes with the convenience of on-campus shopping, will be at the Environmental Health and Safety Building, 201 Palm Road (east of the Orchards off Route 366), from 7:30 to 11 a.m. and from noon to 3 p.m. Employees eligible to receive department reimbursement for safety shoes should use an L order (local pick-up) when purchasing shoes using Lehigh Safety Shoe as the vendor, with an authorized signature. Employees using an L order will avoid making any out-of-pocket payments for the amount being paid by the department. Employees going to the shoemobile may do so on work time with supervisory approval. The maximum monetary amount allowed by the department should be stated on the L order. Questions should be referred to the Department of Environmental Health and Safety at 255-8200 or by talking to Environmental Health and Safety personnel on duty at the shoemobile.
Software packages: Cornell now has a campuswide site license for SPSS and SYSTAT for both the PC and the Macintosh. SPSS and SYSTAT are statistical software packages that have been expensive but are now more affordable with the new site license, the Office of Statistical Consulting announced recently. The Cornell Institute for Social and Economic Research (CISER), which administers the SAS site license, will now administer the SPSS and SYSTAT licenses. This site license agreement is primarily intended for faculty, staff and graduate students. As in the past, students can purchase graduate packs, for either the Macintosh or PC/Windows, containing full versions of SYSTAT or of three modules of SPSS (Base, Advanced and Professional) directly from the Campus Store. Information on the packages is available on CISER's home page at http://www.ciser.cornell.edu. For more information, contact Mariann Carpenter, mgc1@cornell.edu or 255-1361, or the Office of Statistical Consulting at statcons@cornell.edu.
