Reeshon Feuer, professor emeritus of soil science and agronomy, died March 29 in Ithaca. He was 80.
Feuer received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of New Hampshire and earned a doctorate from Cornell in 1956.
Prior to becoming an assistant professor at Cornell in 1956, Feuer worked here as an extension specialist in soil science. He became an associate professor in 1958 and was promoted to full professor in 1968. He gained emeritus status in 1974.
With an extensive career in agricultural consulting, Feuer worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Soils and Conservation Services and served as a rice production technologist for the International Rice Research Institute. He consulted with many countries on agricultural issues and worked with the Ministry of Agriculture, Philippines National Production Program.
In Ithaca, Feuer volunteered with many local community groups including Gadabout and F.I.S.H., and he served as director of Heart Mates Inc.
A memorial service is planned for May 10 at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 309 Highland Road, Ithaca.

Nevart Yaghlian, 68, of 53 Sheraton Drive, Ithaca, former director of counseling services for the College of Human Ecology, died April 3 en route from Beruit to Paris.
Yaghlian was born in the Old City of Jerusalem, and she became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1975.
She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Beruit, her master's from Ohio State University and her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. During her career, she devoted herself to the educational field as both administrator and teacher, but her first love remained teaching.
She held various positions including ones at Bir Zeit College, West Bank, Jordan; Haigazian College, Beirut; and Ohio State and Michigan universities. She joined the counseling division of the College of Human Ecology at Cornell in 1974 where, in addition to counseling undergraduate students, she worked with faculty developing innovative teaching/learning programs. She also served as director of counseling services for several years. She retired from Cornell in 1993. Most recently she had been working with students and faculty at the St. Nersess Seminary in New Rochelle, N.Y.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 3, at 2 p.m. in Anabel Taylor Chapel with the Rev. Jack Lewis, former director of Cornell United Religious Work, officiating. A reception will follow in the Founder's Room.
