Trustees meet: The Cornell Board of Trustees will meet on campus this Friday and Saturday. The full board will convene on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Trustee Meeting Room of the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art. During the open session, which will adjourn at approximately 11 a.m., the board will hear a report from President Hunter Rawlings; Vice President for Student and Academic Affairs Susan Murphy will present a preliminary report from the Residential Communities Implementation Plan Steering Committee; Associate Provost Winnie Taylor will present the annual report on the status of women, American Indians, Asian Americans, African Americans and Hispanic Americans; and the 1997-98 financial plan and statutory college budget will be presented. Four committees will have open sessions on Friday:
A limited number of tickets for the open session of the full board are available at the Information and Referral desk in the lobby of Day Hall. No tickets are needed for the open sessions of the other committees.
Annual steam shutdown: Annual campuswide steam shutdowns are scheduled by Facilities Management Department so essential maintenance on the steam distribution system and repairs at the Central Heating Plant can be made. This year the steam system will be shut down at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, and started up again at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 29. Most buildings will not have full steam until midnight or later after start up. Any inconvenience is regretted, but the department has learned through experience that a shutdown during this period, following Commencement, adversely affects the fewest people and activities on campus. If you anticipate problems, contact the department's Customer Service Center at 255-5322.
Transportation notes: Summer Session Permits: Parking permits for the summer session, valid from May 27 to Aug. 22, have gone on sale at the Transportation Office, 116 Maple Ave. Permits for the central campus area are limited and will be sold on a first-come, first-served, space-available basis. Call Transportation Services at 255-PARK for price information and availability.
Summer Blue Light Service: Blue Light bus Route 92 provides nighttime service to the Cornell campus from 6:30 p.m. to 2:15 a.m., seven days a week, all year. Routes 91 and 93 end service May 25 and resume service on Aug. 22. If you have any questions, call 277-RIDE.
Transportation Services hours: Summer office hours, 7:30 a.m. -- 4 p.m., begin the day after Memorial Day, May 27, and continue until Aug. 26. Academic year hours, 7:30 a.m. -- 5 p.m., M -- F, will resume Aug. 27.
Museum docents: The Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art is looking for volunteer docents. A docent at the Johnson Museum is a volunteer who teaches visiting children, students and adults about the museum's collections and current exhibitions. Those chosen to take part in the museum's docent program are provided with training and given benefits as members of the museum. Volunteers are being sought from Ithaca and the surrounding communities who are interested in working with people of all ages, have an interest in art and a willingness to learn. Volunteers should have free hours during both the week and the weekend and be willing to make at least a two-year commitment. Contact Linda Price at 254-4654.
