Student's body found: The Ithaca Police Department on May 31 recovered the body of student Woo Hyen Lee, 22, from a pool in the gorge below the suspension bridge. He was reported missing by his parents on May 24. Ithaca Police, assisted by Cornell Police, launched an extensive search of the area that included the New York State Forest Rangers, Ithaca Fire Department, Tompkins County Search and Rescue and the New York State Police Aviation Unit from Syracuse. Lee was to be awarded his bachelor of science degree with a major in chemistry at Commencement. He was a citizen of South Korea whose family resides in Ocean, N.J.

English teachers: Interested in helping people from foreign countries associated with the Cornell community? The Cornell Campus Club has a program for teaching English as a second language to persons temporarily in Ithaca. The commitment is for one two-hour class per week, plus preparation. Home environment workshop: Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County is offering a workshop on Home*A*Syst, a home-environment pollution prevention program, on Thursday, June 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at 619 Willow Ave. Participants will receive a 116-page guidebook that covers 11 topics, such as improving air quality, protecting water quality and managing household hazardous waste. There is a $5 fee that covers the registration and the handouts. Call 272-2292 by June 16, before 4:30 p.m., to pre-register or for more information. Late registration will be accepted on June 19. However, no one will be turned away for lack of payment.

Academic Year in America: Emmy Sureyya Boothroyd of Ithaca has been appointed local coordinator by the Academic Year in America program. The AIFS Foundation's program arranges five and 10 month home-stay/high school experiences for teenagers from Europe, Asia and Latin America. As local coordinator for the program, Boothroyd will be interviewing families in the area who are interested in hosting a boy or a girl during the 1997-98 school year. Students arrive in August and January from Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, Brazil and many other countries. All have studied English and have their own spending money and full medical insurance. A family is invited to select the boy or girl whose interests best match their own.
