Some highlights of CU's contract offer to UAW

The following are highlights of the four-year contract offer Cornell's bargaining team made to the UAW team just before the contract expired at midnight June 30:

• The salary rates new hires for the most heavily populated and lowest graded positions will increase up to 27.5 percent in three years.
• By June 29, 2000 (in three years), the minimum annualized hiring salaries will range from $18,049 to $28,717 per year for new full-time bargaining unit employees.
• By June 29, 2000 (in three years), all full-time custodians with more than one year of service will be earning at least
  $19,266 per year on an annualized basis.
• By June 29, 2000 (in three years), the average full-time bargaining unit employee will be earning $23,423 on a 39-hour week without overtime. In addition, the average bargaining unit employee receives Cornell's benefits package (e.g., health insurance, retirement, etc.), valued at $8,667 per year, which brings the total compensation package for the average bargaining unit employee to $32,090 per year.

  Some examples of salary improvements for individual bargaining unit employees under Cornell's proposal:

• A recently hired SO-O2 currently making $7.25/hour will be making $9.50/hour on June 29, 2000 -- an increase of
  $2.25/hour in three years.
• A recently hired SO-O4, currently making $7.87/hour, will be making $10.35/hour on June 29, 2000 -- an increase of $2.45/hour in three years.
• A recently hired SO-O6, currently making $8.87/hour, will be making $11.21/hour on June 29, 2000 -- an increase of $2.34/hour in three years.
• A custodian currently making $8.25/hour will be making $10/hour on June 29, 2000 -- an increase of $1.75/hour in three years.
• A maintenance mechanic currently making $13/hour will be making $14.75/hour on June 29, 2000 -- an increase of $1.75/hour in three years.
