Cornell Glee Club will perform traditional Homecoming concert

The Cornell Glee Club, under the direction of Scott Tucker, presents its annual Homecoming Concert in Sage Chapel Saturday, Sept. 27, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $6 in advance and $7 at the door and are available at the Willard Straight Hall ticket office (255-3430) and the Lincoln Hall ticket office (255-5144).

The program features classic selections for men's voices, including Franz Biebl's Ave Maria and a conducting appearance by former Glee Club director Professor Emeritus Thomas Sokol. The concert is dedicated to the memory of Glee Club alumni Stanley Malinowsky and Greg Pearson.

The oldest student organization at Cornell, the Glee Club was founded in 1868 as the Orpheus Glee Club. Since then, the 70-voice male choir has performed on concert tours throughout the United States and in more than 20 countries, including the People's Republic of China, Germany, Great Britain, the former Soviet Union and Japan.

As assistant professor and director of choral activities, Tucker conducts the Glee Club and Chorus. Prior to coming to Cornell, he was the choral director at Milton Academy in Milton, Mass. In addition to his work at Milton, Tucker served as assistant conductor of the Harvard Glee Club and as interim conductor of the Harvard Glee Club and the Harvard-Radcliffe Chorus. He received a master of music degree in choral conducting from the New England Conservatory of Music in 1986 and a bachelor's degree from Tufts University in 1981.
