CU Cinema presents Ithaca premiere of 'Un Air de Famille'

French director Cédric Klapsich turns an ironic eye on family relationships in "Un Air de Famille," which features award-winning performances by an ensemble cast.

Cornell Cinema presents the Ithaca premiere of French director Cédric Klapsich's comedy about dysfunctional family life, "Un Air de Famille." The film will be shown Saturday, Oct. 31, and Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7:15 p.m. in Willard Straight Theatre.

Told in real time, "Un Air de Famille" centers on a family gathering that brings out both the best and the worst in relatives. Familiar types, including a shrewish mother, a sharp-tongued daughter and a mama's-boy son, clash in unpredictable ways, erupting into hilarious scenes of conflict and resolution. Shot, despite its intimate subject matter, in Cinemascope, the film makes the most of its ensemble cast's spontaneous, free-wheeling performances and collective energy, and two of its actors won the French equivalent of the Oscar for their roles. Based on a hit French play, "Un Air De Famille" "finds ... universal truths in its family tensions," said The New York Times.

This program is made possible in part with the support of the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and the Cultural Ministry of France.
