Trustee committee: The Executive Committee of the Cornell Board of Trustees is having a brief open session when it meets today at 1:30 p.m. in the Fall Creek Room of the Cornell Club of New York, 6 E. 44th St., New York City. The public session, for the meeting's first 20 minutes, will include a report from President Hunter Rawlings, an update on statutory college affairs and a report of the Buildings and Properties Committee.
PCCW research grants: The President's Council of Cornell Women (PCCW) seeks to increase the long term retention of women at Cornell by supporting the completion of research leading to tenure and promotion. Cornell women associate and assistant professors and women Ph.D. candidates are invited to apply for 1999 PCCW grants. Application may be made for grants to support research on any subject. Grants for faculty will range between $2,000 and $6,000, and grants for Ph.D. candidates will be between $1,000 to $1,500. Applications will be evaluated on scholarly merit, originality and significance; research design; clarity of writing; feasibility and appropriateness of budget. Winter session permits: A limited number of temporary central campus parking permits -- valid from Dec. 22 to Jan. 15 -- will be sold for $21.23. Faculty and staff members may purchase a winter session permit by coming to the office at 116 Maple Ave. Permits will be available beginning Dec. 14, and are available on a first-come, first-served, space-available basis. Call for papers: The graduate students of the Science and Technology Studies (S&TS) Department have announced a conference to explore the boundaries of identity, April 16-18, 1999. Papers are being requested to engage with theoretical questions raised by the intersection of technology and identity. Abstracts of no more than 250 words and a one-page curriculum vitae should be sent to the postal or e-mail address listed below by Dec. 15. Abstracts from graduate students in all fields are encouraged.
