Honduran hurricane aid: Since the beginning of November, the Honduran Student Association and Friends, under the mentoring of the Latin American Studies Program, has been actively collecting monetary donations and in-kind donations (food and clothing) to help those suffering from the devastation of Hurricane Mitch in Honduras. John Debiec, the group's committee head for in-kind donations, said, "The amount of help has been overwhelming; already we have a container's worth of food and clothing." The collection drive for food and clothing ended Dec. 4, and over 4,000 pounds of donations have been packed. The Honduran Student Association and Friends is no longer able to collect in-kind donations, because the cargo had been boxed and is ready to be sent out, organizers say. However, they still are encouraging people to send monetary donations, since the funds can help to pay for transporting the goods and for long-term needs, such as construction materials and seeds. Contributions can be sent to: Honduran Student Association and Friends, c/o Latin American Studies Program, 190 Uris Hall, Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y. 14853; e-mail: honduras_friends@hotmail.com. A group of Cornell faculty members will participate in a workshop in Honduras during January 1999 to help identify mid- and long-term needs.

Computer-based training: It's time to update the Computer Based Training library. Technology Training Services invites all faculty, staff and students to help decide which courses to carry. Out of 700 titles, TTS can select 280. Please cast your votes at http://www.cit.cornell.edu/training/ before Jan. 29, 1999. CBT courses are interactive, computer training courses that can be downloaded to a computer or run from the web. In the past five months, they have helped people build personal skills, meet course prerequisites, do on-the-job training and prepare for professional certification. For details, visit http://www.cit.cornell.edu/training/cbtweb/.

Chronicle schedule: The Cornell Chronicle will resume publication Jan. 21. Items for inclusion in the calendar section should be submitted by Jan. 11. Have a safe and happy holiday!

Family Night: The popular Family Night at the Court basketball doubleheader against Columbia, which annually packs Newman arena, has a new twist this year. Tickets for the Friday, Jan. 15, doubleheader will cost just $1 for employees. Because an Ivy League television commitment forced a switch from Saturday to Friday this year, there will be no dinner option, but a third employee athletic event, an April 24 men's lacrosse match with Princeton, will include an employee barbecue. Discount tickets for the big January family-night basketball doubleheader with Columbia, televised nationally by DirecTV, will go on sale Jan. 4 at four locations -- the Field House ticket office, the Cornell Recreation Connection in 103 Day Hall, the Munch Mart at the Campus Store and Helen Newman Hall.
