The Cornell Political Forum's quarterly magazine earned top honors from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) for its 1996-97 academic year issues.
Judged on the basis of concept, content, design and creativity, the student magazine received 926 out of 1,000 possible points, earning it a Gold Medal among college publications. The Forum also earned two All-Columbian honors for superior achievement in the design and creativity categories.
The Forum previously won CSPA's 1993 Gold Crown and 1996 Silver Crown awards.
"It is an honor for the Forum to receive this Gold Medalist award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, an organization committed to promoting and setting the standards for journalistic excellence," Catherine Biondo, current editor in chief of the magazine, said. "It is a great incentive for both editors and staff to continue to go above and beyond to make the Forum the best it can be."
Members of the Forum's editorial board during 1996-97 were Carolyn Coberly, editor in chief; Catherine Biondo, managing editor; Christina Hughes, layout editor; Jason Rissman, business manager; and Chris Sant, global network director.
In addition to publishing a nonpartisan political magazine with contributions from college students across the country twice each semester, the Cornell Political Forum sponsors yearly debates on important issue like affirmative action and civil rights.
The Forum is funded by the Student Assembly Finance Commission, the Einaudi Center for International Studies, the vice president for student and academic services and the Adelphic Cornell Educational Fund.
