In celebration of its 100th anniversary, Cornell's Department of Natural Resources is presenting an environmental film festival April 3 through 9. "Stewards of the Land" will screen 20 documentary, feature, animated and archival films and will include discussion with guest filmmakers, environmental experts and community leaders. Most events are free and open to the public.
Highlights include presentations from international filmmakers, including Jose Araújo's award-winning Brazilian film Landscapes of Memory and Ali Kazimi's Indian tale Narmada: A Valley Rises. Co-hosted by Cornell Cinema, festival specials include cinematographer Ron Fricke's powerful films Koyaanisqatsi and Baraka. The opening night screening of Cadillac Desert, based on Mark Reisner's groundbreaking book on the water wars of the American West, will feature Hollywood producer Sandra Itkoff.
"The festival's goal is to bring the diverse Ithaca community together to screen excellent films which challenge our perceptions of what is 'environmental,' treating not only the natural landscape but also the human-built environment," said festival coordinator Roopali Phadke. "We are thrilled to have many fascinating filmmakers coming to Ithaca to showcase a wide variety of films."
Films are included in the calendar, and the complete schedule is available at http://www.cfe.cornell.edu/filmfest.
