The eight-acre Mundy Wildflower Garden at Cornell Plantations is about to burst into multihued bloom. Like other Plantations collections, the wildflower garden is open free of charge to the public during daylight hours.
This garden in the woods, one of the most comprehensive wildflower collections in upstate New York, features plants native and naturalized to the Cayuga Lake Basin, including skunk cabbage, spring beauties, jack-in-the-pulpit and dame's rocket, which bloom until mid-June. The garden entrance is located at the intersection of Forest Home Drive and Caldwell Road, where limited off-road parking is available.
Robert Wesley, a naturalist and botanist, will identify and talk about the natural history and lore of spring wildflowers and other forest plants and creatures in the Cornell Plantations on April 26, May 17 and May 31, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. The cost for the three sessions is $35 for Plantations members and $40 for nonmembers.
Information on this and other Cornell Plantations classes is available by calling 255-2407 or visiting the Plantations web site http://www.plantations.cornell.edu.
