All items for the Chronicle Calendar should be submitted (typewritten, double spaced) by campus mail, U.S. mail or in person to Chronicle Calendar, Cornell News Service, Surge 3, Judd Falls Road.

Notices should be sent to arrive 10 days prior to publication and should include the name and telephone number of a person who can be called if there are questions.

Notices should also include the subheading of the calendar in which the item should appear.

graduate bulletin

* Diploma distribution: Diplomas will be available for May 1998 degree recipients who completed requirements by mid-March for those fields and/or colleges that distribute diplomas at ceremonies after commencement. Diplomas will be mailed to other recipients .
* Ph.D. recognition event: The ceremony to honor Ph.D. recipients will be held in Barton Hall Saturday, May 23, at 5 p.m. Family, friends and faculty advisers are invited; reception will follow. Candidates who participate must wear a cap and gown and must register in Barton Hall between 3:30 and 4 p.m. before the ceremony.
* Faculty meeting: A graduate faculty meeting will be held Friday, May 22, 4 p.m., 125 Caldwell Hall. The meeting is solely for the purpose of voting on May degrees.
* Dissertation and thesis seminars will be held in 100 Caldwell Hall. Master's thesis seminar will be Wednesday, June 17, 2 p.m.; doctoral dissertation seminar is Wednesday, June 24, 2 p.m. The thesis adviser will discuss preparing and filing theses and dissertations; students, faculty and typists are encouraged to attend.
* Degree deadline: Friday, Aug. 21, is the deadline for completing all requirements for an August degree, including submitting the thesis/dissertation to the Graduate School.

* May 23, 3 p.m., Arts Quad: The Cornell University Wind Ensemble presents its Senior Week Concert. Part of Commencement-week activities, the concert repertoire includes favorite works played during the 1997-98 season, patriotic songs and marches and traditional Cornell songs.
* May 23, 8 p.m., Bailey Hall: The Cornell University Chorus and Glee Club present a Commencement-eve concert. Admission is $6 in advance, $7 at the door. Advance tickets are available at the Lincoln Hall ticket office, Monday through Friday, 9:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m.

Intramural Summer Softball
Competitive, coed and recreational leagues are now forming for the summer softball season, June 15 to Aug. 7. Intramural softball is open to all Cornell staff, students and spouses/domestic partners. Teams play two games a week (MW or TR). Choice of day and time is on a first-come, first-served basis.
