Publications from Media Services win SUNY awards

Three publications produced by Media and Technology Services won awards in this year's competition held by the State University of New York's Council for University Affairs and Development.

Cornell Focus, the magazine of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, took first place in the institutional publications category. Focus was cited for its strong artwork and "top-notch" typography and content. The cover designs were called "sharp, inviting and colorful," and the design inside was described by the judges as attractive and "outstanding in places." Focus is produced by Elizabeth Bauman, editor; Barbara Drogo, designer; writers Jeanne Mackin, Linda McCandless, Mike Powers and Metta Winter; and University Photography.

The Human Ecology Pocket Book of Useful Information and Student Guide to Academic Programs placed second in institutional publications. It was commended for its "clean and simple design" and information that is accessible and easy to read. The judges also liked the environmentally friendly design that echoes the College of Human Ecology's curriculum. The pocket book was designed by Dennis Kulis.

ALS News, the alumni tabloid for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, won second place in the alumni magazines/newsletters category. The judges said "reading the wonderful articles would probably be as instructional as any institution's classes." They also cited the publication for great photography and graphics. Metta Winter is the writer, Dennis Kulis the designer and Elizabeth Bauman the editor of ALS News. Photos are by University Photography.
