Be sure to update your Cornell directory information

Reviewing the information that appears in Cornell's telephone and electronic directories is simpler for faculty and staff this year. The deadline for verifying and changing information is Sept. 9.

You can review your current listing through the World Wide Web by going to <http://www.cit.cornell.edu/computer/phones/updatetel.html> and entering your network ID. To update your listing, use <http://whoiam.cornell.edu/Howtofix.html> or ask your administrative manager to make the changes.

Administrative managers can check their department's listings at <http://www.cit.cornell.edu/directory/dept/> and update them using CHRISP (Cornell Human Resources Information System Project). Departments are alphabetized.

For some of these web sites, SideCar (a network-security program) must be running on your computer. Click on "World Wide Web" in the new Bear Access viewer or the older Bear Access Launch Pad to start SideCar automatically.

In May, all employees were sent an e-mail message that displayed their current directory information, along with instructions for updating it. Reminder postcards went out last week. Administrative managers also have been sent details on using CHRISP to update listings.

Again, the last day to update directory listings is Sept. 9. Phone books should arrive on campus by the end of October. For more information, send e-mail to <directory_entry@cornell.edu>. (Students: Your directory information can be updated through Bear Access using Just the Facts and Who I Am.)

How directory information is obtained and who sees it

When you became a Cornell employee, the Office of Human Resources added your full legal name, job title(s) and department to the university directories.

Using Employee Essentials (a Bear Access service), you can update your work address, phone numbers and fax numbers, and choose whether to publish your home information. Your standard e-mail address (in the form <NetID@cornell.edu>) is published unless you use Who I Am to publish a different e-mail address. Or, your administrative manager can use CHRISP to add or change information for you.

Directory information is published in Cornell's phone books, electronic directory (called Ph or directory services in Eudora) and web directories. It will be used in Project 2000 systems.

The "@cornell.edu" column runs on the last Thursday of each month and is edited by Beth Goelzer Lyons of Cornell Information Technologies (CIT). Please send suggestions to <citnews@ cornell.edu>. For more technology news, visit the CIT News web site <http://www.cit.cornell.edu/citpubs/news/>.
