New park adds natural areas to CU Plantations

Dedication ceremonies Oct. 8 marked the opening of Park Park, along Forest Home Drive and Fall Creek, to the northeast of the F.R. Newman Arboretum. The gift of Dorothy D. Park, in memory of her husband Roy H. Park, adds nearly 14 acres of meadows, woodlands and trails to Cornell Plantations. And the new Morgan-Smith Trail, which was dedicated earlier this month, links Park Park to other Plantations natural areas, all of which are open to the public for passive recreation and education during daylight hours.

Work is under way in the meadow section of Park Park to remove invasive plants and return native plant species, part of a restoration program that is expected to offer learning opportunities for students of land management. The park's dedication stone is shown above.

Information on other trails at Cornell Plantations is available at the web site www.cfe.cornell.edu/plantations/guide.html.
