Two Statler veterans are named to direct Cornell hotel operations

Two veterans of the Statler Hotel were named in September to head its day-to-day operations by James E. Hisle '68, managing director of the hotel. The Statler, in the center of Cornell's campus, employs 150 full-time staff and more than 400 students and is both a premier hotel and the largest teaching hotel in the world.

Holly Winslow, named food and beverage director at the hotel, has been both a hotel manager and an instructor in the School of Hotel Administration courses that make use of the Statler's facilities: Restaurant Management, which runs the TCAB ("Themes, Cuisines and Beyond") restaurant, and Guest Chefs, a course in which students learn from some of the world's foremost chefs.

"Holly's excellent supervisory and teaching skills will continue to help us maintain our position as the world's finest teaching hotel," Hisle said.

Winslow's new venue ranges from restaurant operations centered around Banfi's, the Terrace Restaurant and Mac's Cafe, to conferences in the J.W. Marriott Executive Education Center and banquets in the Statler's Grand Ballroom. Before her new appointment, Winslow was a food and beverage manager at the hotel and a food and beverage teaching support specialist at the school. She has been with the Statler since 1989.

Timothy M. Donovan '90, named rooms division director, has provided "leadership and good, solid management in numerous areas," said Hisle, citing Donovan's experience in overseeing Banfi's and room service operations, as a manager-on-duty on nights and weekends, and most recently, supervising the front office.

In his new position Donovan is responsible for the entire rooms division, encompassing the Statler's 150 guest rooms and suites, the front office and the bell stand and housekeeping areas. Prior to his appointment, Donovan was the hotel's front office manager. He began working at the Statler in 1989, when he was still a student.

Hisle expressed confidence in Winslow's and Donovan's leadership "as we focus on our mission of being a service-driven, financially responsible teaching hotel," he said. The hotel is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its new facilities this year.
