Students and faculty showcase original dance works Dec. 2-4

The Cornell Dance Program will celebrate the advent of the year 2000 with its Fall 1999 Dance Theater Concert Dec. 2-4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Class of '56 Dance Theatre, Cornell Center for Theatre Arts.

The concert features eight student-performed dance pieces choreographed by the following students and faculty: Ellen London '01, Elizabeth Mao '01, Cheryl Hunt '00, Meg Lekander '00, Rachel Boggia '00 and Byron Suber, lecturer in the Department of Theatre, Film and Dance.

The first concert piece reintroduces an improvisational dance group to Cornell dance. Many of these dancers also choreographed individual dance pieces, creating a cohesiveness to the concert program. Two of the evening's works were choreographed by Suber in the mid-1980s and were performed by Cornell dancers during his first year teaching at Cornell in 1991. Suber has restructured the works, which celebrate the end of the decade of the '90s. Accompanying music ranges from Bach to minimalist compositions to contemporary pop. A discussion for the audience and the performers follows the Dec. 4 performance.

Tickets are $4. Call or visit the Center for Theatre Arts box office, 430 College Ave., 12:30-5:30 p.m. weekdays; 254-ARTS.
