Max E. Brunk, Cornell emeritus professor of marketing, died April 8 in Ithaca. He was 84. Brunk joined the Department of Agricultural Economics as an associate professor in 1947. He was named a full professor in 1951 and retired in 1983. He was actively involved in the marketing of fruit, vegetables, milk, meat and other horticultural products. He originated the use of controlled experimentation in market research, and wrote extensively on the subject. During his career, Brunk received many awards, including Apple Man of the Year by the International Apple Institute. He earned his bachelorŐs degree from the University of Florida in 1937, and his masterŐs (1941) and doctoral degrees (1947) from Cornell.

Brunk was a member of the American Agricultural Economics Association, the New York State Agricultural Society and the American Marketing Association.

He is survived by his wife, Letta, a sister, two daughters, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.


William Woodland Reeder, Cornell professor emeritus of rural sociology, known for his research into family values, the adjustment of farm families to stress and morale problems in the U.S. Army, died April 2 in Logan, Utah. He was 88.

Reeder joined the Cornell faculty in 1948 and was a professor of rural sociology until his retirement in 1976. In 1978, he and his family moved to Logan.

He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Utah State University, and he received his doctorate in rural sociology in 1947 from Cornell.

Prior to earning his doctorate, Reeder joined the U.S. Army in May 1942, where he served with the Army Research Branch.

During his years in Ithaca, he served on the City Planning Board; as president of the Bryant Park Civic Association; chair of Cornell United Religious Work; and board member of the Northside and Southside community centers.

He is survived by his wife, Letty, of Logan, his son, three daughters and nine grandchildren.
